In visual art, is idea or technique more important?

(you can only pick one or the other)i said visual art to separate it from performance art and literary art. Which contributes more to greatness in art, concept or technique? (These are not one and the same)

usually they are one in the same if done correctly. do you mean the idea of the project, the idea you are trying to convey, the inspiration?

visual art is the tone ur trying to set the theme if u will.technigue is the style of how u've done it.visual is more important.

They may not be one in the same, but they are interdependent. Poor concept paired with excellent mechanical execution will produce an uninteresting picture. Excellent concept produced by poor skill will provide an equally uninteresting work. And there are degrees of 'greatness' that are directly related to the strength or weakness of these two elements.This applies to performance and literary art, too.

Idea! Idea! Idea! You can create a machine that will flawlessly apply an art technique over and over again, but what is the message, or the feeling evoked?
